From Dhaka to D.C.: What the SelectUSA Summit Taught Me About Global Business

Not every professional milestone comes with a view of the White House. Attending the SelectUSA Investment Summit 2026 in Washington, D.C. was one of mine and it was everything I hoped it would be.

The summit brought together nearly 5,000 participants from over 100 countries, including around 2,700 investors, making it one of the world's largest global investment events.

On the sidelines, the U.S.-Bangladesh Business Council hosted a special reception for the Bangladesh business delegation and I was proud to be there representing Backspace.

The venue? The rooftop of the historic U.S. Chamber of Commerce headquarters, right in the heart of Washington.

Why the Summit Matters

The summit isn’t just a networking event. Its purpose is to connect governments, businesses, and investors, and to create meaningful opportunities for collaboration.

For the Bangladesh delegation, this was a chance to showcase our business capabilities, explore partnerships, and understand how global investors think.

It’s about building bridges that strengthen the U.S.-Bangladesh business relations and learning from those who have scaled globally.

Conversations That Count

The reception was filled with meaningful encounters with some of the most influential voices in the U.S.-Bangladesh business relations.

Hearing from the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Paul Kapur, U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen, and Bangladesh Ambassador to the U.S. Tareq Md Ariful Islam reminded me of the importance of strong dialogue and strategic partnerships.

Every conversation was an opportunity to exchange ideas, share our experiences, and highlight how Bangladeshi businesses can align with global investors’ expectations.

Learning from History

Earlier, we also attended the official Welcome Reception at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.

Walking through exhibits from Edison’s lightbulb to America’s musical legacy reminded me how technology, culture, and innovation have shaped growth over time. It’s a great lesson: the right investments, combined with vision and execution, create long-lasting impact.

Takeaways from the Summit

For me, the most valuable part wasn’t just the views or the formalities; it was the connections.

I left with new perspectives on international business, insights into investor priorities, and inspiration for how Backspace can contribute to global markets.

Most importantly, it reinforced that strong relationships, genuine engagement, and thoughtful dialogue are what turn opportunities into real outcomes.

Attending the SelectUSA Investment Summit 2026 was an evening to remember — and a reminder that meaningful business isn’t just about transactions, it’s about trust, collaboration, and shared vision.
